My Subaru journey from 2001 through today.

In a classic case of “where does the time go,” I recently realized that I’ve owned a Subaru of one model or another for the last 20 years!! 😱 During my appearance on the Subie & YOU Podcast, Rafael and I discussed my history with Subaru, and during our chat, it struck me just how long I’ve been driving one. I thought it’d be fun to share my history of Subaru ownership with you.
They say you always remember your first, and that’s true for me and my 2002 WRX wagon. I bought it new, it was so much fun to drive, and with the bugeye styling, it really stood out. I was commuting a lot back then and racked up a ton of miles. It was north of 270,000 miles when I finally let it go, and honestly, that was probably 20,000 more than it needed.
The second one was a 2010 Impreza Outback Sport model in two-tone silver (not shown). I don’t have much to say about it, really, other than coming from the WRX, it wasn’t very sporty. Unfortunately, it met an early demise when it went up against the rear end of a utility truck (thankfully, there were no injuries).
2013 Crosstrek - Harpers Ferry, WV
Say hello to the 2013 Crosstrek. Also in silver, and I sense a theme here. It was far from perfect, but something about it was fun, and I loved it. It’s also the car that inspired me to create the Subie Adventures page. The biggest downside was trying to pass on the interstate in the mountains, which was a struggle. I think current models have seen improvements in that area.
My current Subaru - 2016 Forester XT
And that brings us to my current car, the 2016 Forester XT, and to no surprise, it too is silver. By 2015, the family was growing, and we needed more space and I wanted some extra power so we traded the Crosstrek. Over the course of 90,000 miles the XT has been a great vehicle. My favorite things about it are the turbo (S# is life), the massive moonroof, and the excellent driving visibility.
What’s next? Probably an Outback Wilderness, but not for a few years hopefully, since I’m digging the “no car payment” life.
